Lockheed Martin Selects Smiths Aerospace for F-16 Block 60

26 September 2001

The standby flight instrument is a fully integrated, self-sensing standby instrument capable of computing and displaying attitude, altitude, airspeed and heading within a single 3ATI instrument with a liquid crystal display.  The unit is capable of operating in the highly agile and rigorous conditions that combat aircraft operate within.  Standby instruments are provided to ensure that even in the worst possible circumstances of failure in an aircraft's systems, the pilot will still have a presentation of the most essential flight information.  The magnetometer is a solid state technology capable of providing magnetic heading data in a digital format to be displayed on the standby flight instrument.

Smiths Aerospace has been a supplier of standby instruments for over 50 years and the Integrated Standby Instrument System (ISIS) has been selected for 10 different aircraft platforms across air transport, regional jets, business jets, helicopters, military transport, trainers and combat aircraft since 1998.  Major ISIS customers include Lockheed Martin, Boeing Commercial, Boeing Military, Bombardier Aerospace and Westland Helicopters.

Smiths Aerospace is the leading transatlantic aerospace equipment company, with half its 12,000 staff and $2 billion revenues in North America. The Company holds key positions in the supply chains of all major military and civil aircraft and engine manufacturers and are world-leaders in electronic systems, actuation systems and precision components.
