JSSED will be used on small sensitive battlefield equipment. The base contract award is valued over $2 million, including an initial $1 million in funding for a prototype development and demonstration. Three anticipated follow-on contract options would include system development, demonstration and production. Overall, the 8-year program is expected to be valued at $75 million. Prototype delivery is schedule for January 2003 with production units following in 2003. The U S Army Soldier and Biological Chemical Command, Edgewood Biological Chemical Center located in Edgewood, Maryland is the lead acquisition agency for this program. The equipment is produced at Smiths’ Edgewood, MD facility. JSSED requirements include integrating previous industry findings and government technology assessments to produce a transportable, re-circulating solvent wash ultrasonic bath system for chemical/biological (CB) agent decontamination of small sensitive battlefield equipment.
