Smiths Aerospace Appoints Michael Steel to lead Customer Services20 May 2002Michael will be responsible for the Smiths Aerospace Systems Customer Services operation serving over 1,400 airlines and additional customers in 140 countries. It maintains a global network of support centers strategically located to meet the logistic, technical and maintenance requirements of its customers. Michael has been Managing Director of Hamble Group, the aircraft structures business within Smiths Aerospace since 1999. Hamble became a part of Smiths Aerospace following the merger with TI Group in 2000. Michael had been with the TI Group since 1990 and was part of the senior management team of Dowty Aerospace & Messier-Dowty. He qualified as a lawyer in 1976 and has since worked in industry with companies such as Davy McKee and Northern Engineering Industries. Michael is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and on the Board of Governors of Eastleigh College, Southampton. Smiths Aerospace is the leading transatlantic aerospace equipment company, with half its 12,000 staff and $2 billion revenues in North America.
