The agreement will generate more than $14 million in sales for Smiths Aerospace. Manufacturing development will commence immediately with initial deliveries on aircraft scheduled for delivery to Italy and Japan in 2005. “The 767 Tanker boom actuation system represents another integrated system win and advances Smiths into high power control electronics that complement our growth objectives”, commented Dr. John Ferrie, Group Managing Director for Smiths Aerospace. Boeing made its decision early in the development phase to employ the advances in fly-by-wire electro-mechanical technology into the next generation of refueling aircraft over traditional mechanical and electro-hydraulic technology approaches. This latest selection reinforces Smiths’ position as a Preferred Supplier to Boeing. Smiths Aerospace was previously selected by Boeing for the 767 Tanker Transport integrated mission control system and the hose and drogue refueling system. “Smiths Aerospace is a key member of the pre-eminent team of suppliers we are assembling for the 767 Tanker Transport program,” said Bob Gower, vice president of 767 Tanker Programs, part of Boeing Integrated Defense< Systems. “This team will ensure low-risk and best value for all of our customers.” |
