5 November 2002 - Grand Rapids, MI - Smiths Aerospace has received a contract from Embraer to supply the Voice and Data Recorder (VADR^®) for the AL-X aircraft. The VADR contract including options in support of aircraft deliveries to the Brazilian Air Force provides Smiths Aerospace more than $4 million in sales. Additional Embraer follow-on AL-X aircraft programs and related military and commercial programs are expected to generate more than $10M in added sales over the next ten years. Production deliveries will commence the last quarter in 2003. The VADR is manufactured at the Smiths facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
