Smiths Aerospace selected for AL-X voice and data recorder

5 November 2002 - Grand Rapids, MI - Smiths Aerospace has received a contract from Embraer to supply the Voice and Data Recorder (VADR®) for the AL-X aircraft. The VADR contract including options in support of aircraft deliveries to the Brazilian Air Force provides Smiths Aerospace more than $4 million in sales. Additional Embraer follow-on AL-X aircraft programs and related military and commercial programs are expected to generate more than $10M in added sales over the next ten years. Production deliveries will commence the last quarter in 2003. The VADR is manufactured at the Smiths facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

About the Voice and Data Recorder

The compact, lightweight, and affordable VADR® employs the latest generation of Smiths military and civil acquisition, recording, and memory protection technologies and may be used as a data-only, voice-only, or combined voice and data recorder. Unique in the market place, the VADR® is proven to meet both TSO-C123a/C124a and EUROCAE ED-55 and ED-56A requirements for performance and survivability.

About the AL-X

The AL-X is a multi-purpose aircraft based on the successful Embraer 312 Tucano. The aircraft has been developed for training and operational missions from remote locations deprived of support infrastructure.
