Smiths Aerospace provides PCMCIA card for U.S. Navy eTAWS14 June 2003The contract provides a Type II PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) card modified to host the U.S. Navy-owned eTAWS algorithm, digital terrain elevation data and a processor. Smiths is the only source that possesses the necessary technical data, experience and expertise to produce a PCMCIA card that can host the eTAWS code in both the Smiths Digital Data Set and the Advanced Memory Unit. The eTAWS system provides a warning and suggested manoeuvres to the pilot to prevent collision with the ground. Smiths has supplied militarized PCMCIA cards to the Navy since 1998 and has extensive understanding of Digital Terrain Elevation Data from our other digital terrain system and digital moving map product areas. |
