Smiths Heimann receives first order for Dominican Republic Project18 March 2003About the Silhouette Scan Mobile 140:The SILH-M-140 inspection system provides an economical and individual solution for inspecting large-volume loads. It is ideally suited for a wide range of applications, mainly tracking down illegal goods. For instance, vehicles declared "empty" can be examined easily and quickly. Thus, a truck or container may be analyzed in only two minutes without the need to open and unload it. Furthermore, the SILH-M-140 can be set up and dismantled in less than an hour, thereby allowing fast use at changing strategic points of focus at all crucial ports of the island. The HCV-Mobile utilizes a new concept, which facilitates the inspection of stationary vehicles or loads while moving the mobile unit. This system distinguishes itself by its unique flexibility. Being a vehicle-mounted unit, it is ready to operate anywhere in less than 30 minutes and can inspect up to 30 trucks per hour. With an X-ray energy of 3.8 MeV, the system is capable of penetrating up to 270 mm of steel. As it appears, this mobile system combines full mobility, excellent image quality and easy handling simultaneously. Under the auspices of the Dominican Ministry of Defense, this project is the first of its kind in the Caribbean basin and seeks to reinforce security measures undertaken at all ports. It is part of the government's contribution to the ongoing efforts in the war on terrorism and its dedication to improve regional security measures. The systems will be used primarily to detect weapons, narcotics and contraband in inbound as well as outbound freight. Being the only x-ray technology supplier for ICSSI S.A., Smiths Heimann will deliver a total of two SILH-M-140 systems and up to three additional HCV Mobile 3.8 MeV systems to provide for the initial stages of the project at the ports of Haina Oriental and Occide |
