Kitty Ussher commented, "I'm determined to see British manufacturing succeed. The best of British is still the best in the world. When I worked as an adviser to Patricia Hewitt at the DTI I helped write the first manufacturing strategy by any government for over 30 years. Now, as MP for Burnley, I'll do anything I can to support manufacturing firms in my constituency. We have a proud tradition of making things in this town and it's one I'm determined to see continue for many years to come." While at the facility Kitty Ussher will discuss the technologies and systems provided by Smiths for military and civil aircraft and engines, from fighters and transport to large civil, regional and business jets, as well as research and development endeavours. She will also be meeting with unions and is a member of Amicus. In February 2004 Kitty was selected by a clear majority of Burnley Labour Party members to be the party's parliamentary candidate at the next general election. Previously she had worked as political adviser to Patricia Hewitt, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. |
