SMITHS AEROSPACE HONORS GRADUATES OFFIRST SIX SIGMA TRAINING PROGRAM

26 August 2005

Beginning last summer, Six Sigma Black Belt and Quality Engineering Manager Lynn Heisey, led Smiths Aerospace's 11 Green Belt candidates as they completed more than 220 hours of specialized training in quality and process improvement. The Green Belts then applied that training in three team projects that focused on improving the quality and cost of specific products and processes currently in use at Smiths' Dayton facility.

"I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication of the Six Sigma team members," said Vic Bonneau, President of Electrical Power for Smiths Aerospace. "Smiths' growth and success is dependent on our ability to continually improve our products and build efficiencies and cost savings into our processes. The Six Sigma training is an important first step in building a stronger, leaner corporate culture at Smiths Aerospace."

The employees completed training in four different areas, including Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering and Programs. Upon graduation, they will join various subject experts at Smiths in leading improvement teams to identify additional cost savings and/or quality improvements for Smiths Aerospace's products and processes.

Smiths Aerospace, a part of Smiths Group plc, is a leading transatlantic aerospace systems and equipment company, with more than 10,000 employees (including 350 in Dayton) and $2 billion revenues globally. The company holds key positions in the supply chains of all major military and civil aircraft and engine manufacturers and are world-leaders in digital systems, electrical power, mechanical systems, engine components and Systems Customer Services.
