Smiths provides Thrust Reverser Actuation System for new RRJ

13 June 2005

Dr. John Ferrie, President of Smiths Aerospace said, "This win strengthens Smiths' industry leadership position in Thrust Reverser Actuation Systems. This is the seventh major TRAS programme for which Aircelle, Safran Group has chosen Smiths thus confirming we are providing best value to our customer."

This win adds to a number of awards to Smiths in the past five years including the A318 (PW6000), ERJ 170 (CF34-8E), ERJ 190 (CF34-10E), Challenger 300 (AS907), Falcon 2000 EX (PW308), Falcon F7X (PW307) and the Power Optimised Aircraft for the European Community (EC) 5th Framework Programme. Smiths thrust reverser systems offer electro-mechanical as well as traditional hydro-mechanical solutions, providing the most reliable TRAS products in the industry.

About the RRJ: The Russian Regional Jet first flight is scheduled for 2007. The RRJ project envisages the development of six different models of an aircraft with 60 to 95 seats, with a standard or extended range. The demand for Russian regional jets on the domestic and foreign markets is expected to reach 650 planes by 2013. The international market will need about 5,500 of these small, inexpensive and easy-to-use passenger airliners in the next 20 years. Production of RRJ planes is scheduled to start in 2007.
