Smiths Aerospace supplies actuation subsystem for Canadian H-92

17 July 2006 – Farnborough UK – Smiths Aerospace has been awarded a contract to supply the integrated blade fold and pin puller actuator subsystem for Canada's 28 new Sikorsky H-92 maritime helicopters, designated the CH148 Cyclone by the Canadian Forces. The three-year contract from Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation is worth more than $6M with first delivers scheduled for the third quarter 2007. The equipment will be manufactured at Smiths facility in New Jersey .

The actuator subsystem provides torque to fold each blade, as well as insert and withdraw the blade lock pins. This functionality allows the pilot to automatically stow or spread the Main Rotor Blades. There are four actuators and pin puller units per aircraft. The folding and locking functions are achieved through a common motor mechanically sequenced through the use of differential gearing.

Canada 's Cyclone medium-lift helicopters will perform surface and subsurface surveillance and control, and utility operations that include search and rescue, passenger and cargo transfer, medical evacuations and tactical transport in support of national and international security.

About Smiths Aerospace: Smiths Aerospace, a part of Smiths Group, is a leading transatlantic aerospace systems and equipment company, with more than 11,000 employees and $2 billion revenues globally. The company holds key positions in the supply chains of all major military and civil aircraft and engine manufacturers and is a world-leader in digital, electrical power, mechanical systems, engine components and Systems Customer Services. www.geaviationsystems.com
