GE Congratulates Airbus and Singapore Airlines on A380 First Commercial Flight, Entry Into Service

“We are delighted to bring the technology of our integrated digital and mechanical systems together for the A380,” commented John Ferrie, President of Systems for GE Aviation. “Our employees are proud to see their expertise put to use, allowing us to provide leading technologies that enable the A380 to operate more efficiently.”

The Systems division of GE Aviation is among the key suppliers on the A380, providing five significant systems. GE’s landing gear actuation system provides the brain and brawn to extend and retract the main landing gears and synchronizes and actuates all landing gear doors with GE’s electronic hardware and software, while the mid-fixed trailing edge structural components form a major part of the wing. GE also provides the high-lift wing flap & slat actuation, air generation system actuation, and video switching multiplexer for display functions, along with a long-term Integrated Logistic Management Service (ILM) agreement with Singapore for the A380 fleet. GE Aviation’s total systems contract value on the Airbus A380 is worth more than $1 billion, excluding the Integrated Logistics Management Service.

GE Aviation, an operating unit of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), is a world-leading provider of commercial and military jet engines and components as well as integrated digital, electric power, and mechanical systems for aircraft. GE Aviation also has a global service network to support these offerings. For more information, visit us at www.ge.com/aviation.
