The DART data recorder playback tool is system designed around non-intrusive easy to install flight-worthy computer and a flexible software package. DART hardware for data collection consists of a portable computer provisioned with commercial ARINC 429 interface cards. DART has been used for flight testing since 1998. 
Electromagnetic compatibility and Failure Mode Effects Analysis with existing aircraft avionics systems has been achieved by DART’s electronic avionics interface. The DART portable computer is rugged and meets aircraft vibration and shock requirements. Further, GE has designed and qualified various aircraft mounting system configurations, and wiring and connection hardware. The system holds FAA Supplemental Type Certificate for operational installation in all modern Boeing 737 aircraft.
DART software is designed around a data storage and retrieval process that provides high-performance real-time storage of data with a convenient random access data replay capability. DART records all activity on the sampled data busses without regard to inherent content while simultaneously making that content available for immediate use.
