The AMU is the next generation in flight U.S. Navy cockpit data loader/recorder. It acts as a remote terminal and bus monitor on the MIL-STD-1553 MUX bus for mission/maintenance data loading and recording. The unit uses two PCMCIA cards for storage of data with capacities up to 4 Gigabytes each. The AMU was originally designed to support the U.S. Navy Tactical Aircraft Moving Map but can easily be used as a stand alone device. Updates planned in the future include the incorporation of an Ethernet bus to support future aircraft upgrades.
