Supplemental Power & Cooling System

GE has developed an affordable supplemental power & cooling system (SPCS) approach that offers the best solution to meeting requirements unique, dedicated power loads such as those demanded by AESA radars. GE defined and initiated the development of an innovative turbomachine that uses the conventional concept of expanding engine bleed air across a turbine to create cooling air, with the turbine driving a high power generator on the same shaft. Electrical power is produced as a byproduct of the cooling process, with minimal increase in engine bleed air extraction. GE refer to this combination of cooling turbine and electrical generator, mounted on a common shaft, as a Turbo-Generator. The Turbo-Generator is the heart of the SPCS, a system that is scaleable over a wide range of cooling and electrical power levels, providing versatility for tailoring of specific applications. Conditioned AC or DC electrical power can be provided in a number of forms, including high or low voltage DC and variable of fixed frequency AC.
