Land Vehicle CompositesGE has considerable expertise in the development and manufacture of composite structures for specialised automotive and aerospace land vehicles, and has a separate dedicated facility for the manufacture of composites for these specialised applications using Resin Film Infusion (RFI)/'semi-preg' technologies. As well as allowing out-of-autoclave processing, these techniques have other benefits such as the use of heavier weight, lower cost, woven and Non-Crimped Fabrics (NCF's) which in turn can bring benefits like a reduction in lay-up times. The facility currently manufactures the carbon fibre chassis for a high performance prestige sports car at a rate of 15 per week (700 car-sets per year). |
