Flight Management Systems

GE develops Flight Management Systems (FMS) for a variety of civil and military aircraft. They consist of software and/or hardware modules that safely provide:

  • End-to-end flight planning

  • Navigation (integration of inertial, radio and GPS sensors)

  • Trajectory prediction/optimization

  • Flight guidance interface (roll, pitch and thrust commands)

  • Electronic map interface (horizontal and vertical flight plan display)

The FMS controls the aircraft track to the accuracy of three wing-widths and the time of arrival to within 6 seconds anywhere in the flight plan. This precision allows flight procedures that reduce distance traveled and lower community noise, with the ultimate benefit of reduced fuel consumption.

The FMS integrates Required Navigation Performance (RNP) with satellite-based navigation for RNP 0.1 departure, arrival and approach operations. Vertical guidance is provided for continuous descent profiles with a combination of straight and curved path segments, ideal for use at airports with terrain-rich surrounding areas.

The extreme precision throughout a wide range of operations makes GE FMS the preferred supplier for military and civil operators worldwide.
